Thirty women go to Kabul to protest conditions in Helmand · Nov 9, 14:31 by Vic Getz
I’m sitting in the Seattle airport waiting for my flight to Kabul. Three more hours to wait. But, I’m not complaining. I’ve just read Jeanne Bryer’s (Afghan Links Newsletter – subscription info below) news flash that 30 women from Helmand Province have arrived in Kabul to protest conditions of their existence which include warnings to stop work, close schools or be killed. I will never ever be able to comprehend what ‘waiting’ means to these women and their families. Their travel to Kabul is dangerous and high risk but, what they want, what they absolutely need is for their voices to be heard.
When I get to Kabul, I’ll do my best to find out more about this event, and it is an EVENT and tell you what I learn. I’ll get contact information to send letters of support – at least that. They have been waiting long enough!!! If you have contact information already, please pass it on to me so I can get the word out.
Next blog from Kabul.
Try a few grand things, Vic
